Morning Meeting:

We sang the morning songs then startedsome conversation about Halloween. We put up the calendar numbers and looked ahead to see exactly which day our party is on. Pearson said “Halloween is awesome! I am so excited!” Then Addison reminded us to sing Twinkle Twinkle which we did we also held hands and circled to Ring Around the Rosie. Then we did If You're Happy and you Know It. When we were finished singing Dalila presented to the class Harper's wonderful gift to the class: she had made bags for each student containing multiple drawings and crafts which she had designed specifically for each different child.

Snack Time:

Miles was the snack helper and handed out cups of water as well as the napkins. We had some plain cheerios for the first round, and some Annie's x's and o's (honey cheerios) for seconds.

Outside Play:

After some swinging Draven and some others went to the sandbox because the sun was hitting it and itwarmed us up. The boys got out the nylon connector rooms to go shark catching and had a lot of fun building tunnels and getting inside. Elijah caught five or so slugs to take home with him later.

Project Work:

Today we created a cheese cloth ghost with fabric stiffener as decoration for the party. First the children helped Lindsey to piece together our armature into a ghost shape. Then they poured the starch into a big tray and helped to press the cloth down to saturate it in starch. We went around the circle and the kids put on a square or strip of cheese cloth one at a time until the armature was covered and we were out of strips. They got excited about ghosts and made scary sounds most of the time we worked on the activity. It has to dry over night and when we come back to school itwill be hard and ready for us to take out the armature and decorate it.

Rest Time/ Focused Work:

We did a lot of focus work today. Sam drew a picture of his dad after doing his worksheets. He also cut up some paper until he resulted in a fork shape which he held up and stated “fork.” After worksheets Harper wrote a poem about some cats- she spent an amazing amount of time writing out her poem, and was working long after everyone else had left the focus table. Elijah drew a nude on his journal of  “Super Bunny.” He said “you can see his penis.” Miles spent a good amount of time writing the sentence “The blue beetle dug a hole and slept in it.” He illustrated this sentence and spent some time correcting any mistakes that he made. Afterwards the boys were inspired by our “BuildingBug City” documentation and wanted to build another bug city. Miles, Harper, and Elijah went straight to work. They incorporated not only blocks, bugs, and trees, but also the marble machine, traintracks, and trains. They spread their city over the entire play room, and we didn't have any trouble at all with disagreements- they gladly worked out solutions.

Free Play:

This morning Dalila set up a beautiful invitation by displaying an arrangement of shells on a large metal disc. She left one disc empty for the children to fill up. Elijah was very excited about it and  spent a long time with Addison building a design. By the time Pearson joined in the fun Dalila was happy to take apart her design so that they could use both discs and all of the shells. Draven spent a lot of the day dressing up as we have some new princess get-ups on our clothes rack now thanks to Allison (Lily's mom). This morning and after focus time we painted the backsides of our salt cookies (Halloween decorations). Everyone in the school got a chance to paint some of them, and a couple childrenpainted many today.

End of the Day:

We spent the last part of the day painting cookies for the most part. We tried to go outside for a bit but we came back in shortly as it was cutting it close to quitting time, and it was also cold. The children that had made bug city spent this time cleaning up their vast creation.
