Morning Meeting:

After the morning songs everyone scooted back, spread their legs and touched feet to make a big startwinkle shape, and we sang twinkle twinkle little star. Then we played “I Spy” with the colors of the children's clothes. Then we played ring around the rosie and the Hokey Pokey. Lily put up our calendar day, Draven helped us to count the days in English and Pearson helped to count the days in Spanish. Everyone then laid down with the light off to do some stretches while listening to some relaxing music.

Snack Time:

Addison and Elijah were the snack helpers today- Addison put out napkins for everyone, and Elijah handed out the cups. We had animal crackers and lemonade.

Outside Play:

It was raining, but we still needed to get out some energy, so we went for a walk when the light rain. We didn't have enough rain coats to go around so some had to do with their jackets. When we went out the front door we looked closely at the spider web decoration on our huge tree in the front yard. The kids noticed the big silly spiders, and we talked about the webs like they were spun by real spiders. Then we went for a short walk, and came running back when the rain picked up again. We turned on the heat and read some spooky stories in some dry clothes to recover.

Project Work:

Ms. Judith had Music Time today, we all gathered in the front greeting room. We sang our welcome songs, then we all joined hands in a circle and sang Here we go Round the Mulberry Bush. We put different young students in the middle and sang “Here we go round Addison, Maya and Lily...” which was very silly. Then we got out the sheet and put some pennies on it, we did parachute motions and recorded the sounds of the pennies as we moved the sheet all around. We discovered that the pennies sounded like the ocean. Then we used some strange plastic pellets which sounded like the wind when recorded. Afterwards everyone came into the play room and got a percussion instrument to make some noise. We made soft sounds, then loud sounds once again, and tried out the recorder to hear our work. Afterwards it was time for the goodbye songs. Everyonewas very cooperative this time, it was a lovely music session.

When we were done with music we still had some time left so we sat down around the lunch table to create some Halloween decorations. Lindsey guided the children in compiling the inedible cookie recipe that we used for our stars (on the ceiling of the reading room) from when we were studying space last year. We had Halloween shaped cookie cutters in our Magic Box today, and we rolled out the dough and cut out many spooky shapes. We had a late lunch because we had too much fun finishing up this activity.

Rest Time/ Focused Work:

Elijah, and Sam sat down at the table for some focus work. Sam did an impressive amount of work, ending with a picture of Godzilla on his journal which was inspired by Elijah's journal of some Godzilla monsters. Lindsey compiled some vocabulary words for Elijah based on words he attempts to spell in his journals. Then both boys sat down for a game of “Spider and Fly” which is a die-rolling game. Afterwards Lindsey provided one of Elijah's Scooby Doo reading books. We talked about what a sentence was, and then the boys took turns reading sentences until the book was finished. This is the first time Lindsey didn't read any of the book for them at all (except to correct hard words)- they make an excellent reading team. They earned some free play after such hard work. They came into the studio and played with some translucent Legos on our light table. Elijah made some monsters and then got Sam to make some. When they were done they spent a long time play fighting with their monsters- it was some great bonding for the boys. Then the three of us sat down and read two books about monsters.

Free Play:

In the morning Dalila laid out abeautiful invitation in the play room. She separated all of the different kinds of construction toys (for building machines) on a silver cloth. We had some neat little contraptions that were built by the children. There was a lot of play in the kitchen today too- the new fake eggs are definitely a hit. Elijah made a stew out of them at one point. Lily painted in the morning, two very nice paintings, on the easel.

End of the Day:

Our nap time got set back a bit, so we let the little ones sleep until shortly before the end of the day. For that reason we let them have a little free play before our parents came to get everyone.

I feel bad about the kids not having appropriate clothing for the winter. We'd bought a couple things, but didn't expect the cold to hit so suddenly! Now that I'm back I'll make sure they're warmly dressed!
