Daily Report: Oct. 7, 08
Morning Meeting:
We opened with the morning songs, then we talked about our special visitor today- Xander, Lindsey's pet snake. Everyone got to touch and hold him, Addison said the “zoo” came to visit, and Pearson said that it looked like a scarf around Lindsey's neck. Then we did the calendar and counted the days in English and Spanish. Then we went over the Spanish words for Black and Red, then played the paper game again. Then we got up for some music, and sang the Itsy Bitsy Spider: several times both high pitched and very low for very small spiders as well as very big spiders. We made slow and fast rain sounds by patting our legs. We had a special rainy day Magic Box today with popcorn and an rain forest bug movie inside!

Snack Time:
We made popcorn for our snack in the microwave. Everyone gathered into the kitchen to hear it pop as it got hotter.
Outside Play:
After some initial swinging there was some good play in the sandbox. It was muddy out so some took of their boots and squished their toes in the mud. Elijah played in the playhouse to avoid fat raindrops coming off of trees, and Draven found a puddle to splash in with Kieran. We didn't go out at the last part of the day- we stayed in for some free play.
Project Work:
We came in and washed off our feet from the mud, then everyone piled onto the couch in a row. Each child got their own blanket- we drew the drapes and Elijah was our guide through the movie- he owns it. There were some really amazing shots of different tropical insects in action. Kieran lost interest pretty quickly and came out to play with our new multi-function toy donated by Kendra. We didn't finish the movie before lunch time, so we'll have to finish it on another rainy day.

Rest Time/ Focused Work:
Elijah put on his headphones and sat down for some drawing. When he was done with that he got a Math booklet and did two worksheets out of it. Kieran came out of the quiet room at that time, so we sat down and read two book- one was the magic school bus goes to a beehive. It was a very long book and they both sat very nicely through the whole thing. Pearson came out at the end of the book, and so Lindsey sat him down for some writing practice. He wrote “Elijah” and “Xander” (the name of Lindsey's snake). Lindsey printed off a picture of the snake for Elijah who drew a couple pictures of him. Pearson drew a couple pictures in his own notebook when focus time was about over and they
Free Play:
The morning we had free play until 10:00 and it was utterly dominated by our special visitor today- Lindsey's Ball Python, Xander. The children were totally fearless (totally tame snake- does not bite what so ever) and every kid held him individually, most held him several times. Elijah was the most enthusiastic and couldn't get enough of him. Pearson asked Lindsey to bring him back again on Thursday. After the snake went back home the kids became interested in our new multi-functioning toy- it has multiple boards on a stand that do different things. Kieran played in the water table- he even washed his little rain boots. Pearson and Elijah also did some pretend play with the toy insects.

End of the Day:
Lindsey read a couple of books to the children- one about a luna moth which helped us to learn the word for "moon" in Spanish. We also read one about some aliens that landed on earth in a zoo and became confused about exactly what a human is.
p.s. thanks Sheriece- I probably would've gone titling with Sept. for quite a while before I noticed that it's not Sept. anymore!

so i called kieran's grandparent's to tell them about something cool that kieran had done at home tonight and all they wanted to talk to him about was holding xander. i sent them the link last night. k. told me he 'loves xander snake' a little while ago... thanks lindsey for bringing such a neato visitor to school.
