Daily Report: Sept. 11, 08
Morning Meeting:
We had an unusual morning with Dalila gone. When everyone was ready we sat down for a speedy morning meeting. Sam and Lily fed our fish, and then we went through and counted the calendar days. Sam put up the number 10 and 11 for us. Then we assigned Pearson and Addison both to snack duty. Addison was in charge of drinks, and Pearson was in charge of food. We skipped the Magic Box- which the children did not forget about all day long!
Snack Time:
We had lemonade and cinnamon cereal for our snack. Addison handed out the cups, and Pearson handed out the napkins. Everyone served themselves by pouring lemonade out of a small pitcher, and pouring their snack onto their napkin using the scooper.
Outside Play:
We spent all of our time on the small swing set because we got a new cleared out space for it- by the end of the day it even had mulch. Our school construction workers raked the leaves up from the area and put wooden beams on the parameter. This exposed worms all over the ground so it was easy for us to just pick them up. Addison spotted a butterfly and we chased him all around the yard until we got a picture of him. Soon Miss Judith and Maya joined us on the playground to look at worms together before it was time to go inside.

Project Work:
We had Music Class today with Miss Judith. We sang some welcome songs addressing each of the children, and then it was time for some sound experiments. Judith brought out a flying-saucer-shaped chime on a string. Each of the children rang it with a spoon and we listened to how long its sound lasted. Then Judith brought out a large jar of water. Everyone had a turn giving it a good chime and then lowering it into the water to hear the sound change. After that Judith brought out a new kind of drum that we've never seen before! Its drum side was on the bottom, and the part you play is an open hole. Coming out of the drum head on the bottom is a long spring- when you play it the springs' sound is amplified and it sounds like thunder! The children were very intrigued by this and they played with it for a good while and tried putting it up to their ear which made it loud. Then we all sat in a circle and sang our goodbye song addressing each child. After it was all over, the children were SO curious about the magic box, that we got to see what it was that we missed the day before- a book called "Yoga Baby." So Lindsey and the children went through the book and tried all of the different animal poses together- we had great participation.

Rest Time/ Focused Work:
Judith stayed with us a while and read a book to Sam and Maya while Lindsey was putting our nappers to sleep. When Lindsey came out we said bye to Maya and Sam got some free play. Sam and Lindsey started a game of alphabet bingo when Pearson made his way out of the resting room and joined our game. To our surprise Pearson beat us both coming in first place! Afterwards Pearson sat down to play Boggle Jr. by himself to practice spelling words. Then we got out our new colored block puzzle which Sam tried out, and then Pearson worked on it for a while fitting all of the pieces together in interesting ways. Lindsey had Sam wash the Chalk Board, or “paint it” with water and a foam brush, which Pearson finished up for him. Then we came into the studio for a little more painting.

Free Play:
Today Lily enjoyed shoveling sparkles from one tray to another. In the morning we had an extended free play and everyone came into the studio to paint! First thing in the morning Sam, Lily, Pearson, and Addison all painted multiple paintings. Addison made a beaded necklace and drew a portrait of Lindsey, and traced her hand. Pearson thought it was a grand idea and began doing some drawings himself. Everyone tried out the easel, and Pearson painted huge red X's for X-Men with the foam brush. Otherwise our little ones always enjoy the marbles and magnet board.

End of the Day:
We all came into the reading room and Lindsey read a couple of books to the children. We read a book about Claude Monet, and one about a Hermit with magical powers. We had a very calm day today, it was quite fun!

First off all, LOVE the picture of A playing outside... as Cinderella in ruby slippers!!! How precious. Also love P's concentration in the bottom two pictures. That puzzle looks mighty interesting...
The yoga sounds fun, too!
