Morning Meeting:

Dalila opened with music, the kids all got shakers and played them along in unison with the beat of some fun music. Then everyone sat down and Dalila sang the morning song addressing each child. Today Lucien was our calendar helper, and put up the number 26 after everyone counted the days together. Then Pearson got to feed the fish, as it was his job today. Addison was the snack helper. When it was time for the Magic Box, inside the children found apples and the sandpaper letter “A”. They felt the letter “A,” repeated its sound, and thought of words that started with “A”. Afterwards they sang a song about the sound it makes. We ended with music, as well, having a short sing along with children's music. When it was cleanup time for snack Addison was great helping Lucien to clean up his trains.

Snack Time:

We had green apples today for snack. Addison took great care in getting water for each child and washing the dishes after snack. Everyone has been enjoying thinking up silly knock-knock jokes.

Outside Play:

Sam decided to stay inside because of the bugs, but everyone else got some bug spray and braved the odds. Elijah got brave on the swings and asked to be pushed pretty high once he worked up to it. He also played in the sandbox with Pearson, and they worked together to make a sandcastle. After a while everyone wanted to try out the other swing set and really got moving! We also found some pretty orange mushrooms in the yard which Pearson took a liking to. Elijah told us that mushrooms are a fungus. Lucien was thrilled when sitting on the two seater's with one of the bigger boys and swinging higher than he normally would. He laughed out loud and hung on tight.

Project Work:

We made our own sandpaper letters in the studio out of colored sand and matte board. This was actually a big hit- Pearson and Elijah ended up making one for each letter of their name. It was like magic when they sprinkled the sand on the glue, and lifted it up to reveal a beautiful letter. Addison made several, as did Lucien, and Sam made a very nice “S” for his name. They loved this- we had to make them stop for lunch. We may revisit this since they enjoyed it so much.

Rest Time/ Focus Work:

Sam put together a puzzle by using the subject matter of the puzzle piece and matching it to the corresponding word inside the blank spaces. Elijah listened to his CD, then Lindsey helped him reading through a Scooby-Doo book Elijah did a great job, so he earned some free play before he did his worksheets. Pearson listened to stories and rested, while Addison fell asleep. After a while he joined the big boys on writing their words. Lindsey read a spider book and the boys gave her their undivided attention as Elijah chimed in with his endless knowledge of spiders and insects. After they played with some rubber insects and spaceships he and Pearson sat and practiced writing.

Free Play:

Addison helped Lindsey to wash some studio dishes in the morning, and soon Pearson joined in. Sam played in the water table, with toy animals, and in the kitchen area. He talked with Elijah about the toy that he brought- all of the boys were impressed by his little hovering disc. In the morning Elijah dressed up like a dragon. Pearson, after helping Addison with dishes, traced letters with a stencil, and drew a picture of an airplane with “his leg stuck in glue,” which he wanted to add to his book.

End of the Day:

After focus work Pearson and Elijah went outside to swing, play in the sand, and in the play house, while Sam and Lindsey stayed inside and read the book about the little firefly who learns to use his light (wonderful book). When the other boys came inside Addison was awake, and all three worked together to put together a floor puzzle- Pearson did an awesome job ( Sam dozed in the living room). A very peaceful day all in all- we have some very well mannered kids this year!
