Morning Meeting:
Lucien's cat came to visit this morning, which delighted the children as they followed him around. Harper exclaimed "We're following the cat trail!" Once everyone sat down Dalila sang the morning song, which greets each child. Afterwards they went around the circle and each child told something about their weekend. Pearson and Addison talked about seeing their Grandmother and going very fast on her boat. Elijah talked about flying on an airplane, etc. Then everyone counted the days of the calender together, all the way up to 25. Pearson was the calendar helper for the day and he put up the new day. This lead into discussing everyone's job for the day. Addison danced when she found out that she got to feed the fish, Lucien helped with the fish, and so did Elijah. Miles and Harper were the snack helpers, and later Miles set the table and Harper washed the dishes. We discussed a name for our fish Miles suggested azul because it is the name in Spanish for Blue. We talked about the Spanish words for colors, and found those colors on everyone's clothes. Sam started counting in Spanish and everyone joined him counting all the way to 25. " Elijah shared his magic box with everyone and Dalila's Magic Box had a puppet and a book about a boy that got really mad because his parents didn't let him do anything that he wanted to do. Dalila talked to the children about feeling mad, and the children suggested different emotions that they feel sometimes. Then everyone got up and sang "If you're happy and you know it."
Snack Time:
Thanks to Kandra for bringing a lovely ripe watermelon for their snack. Many children asked for up to three pieces. Lindsey asked them "Who likes the watermelon the most?", and everyone raised their hand, though Sam wanted lemonade and crackers instead.
Outside Play:
The first time we went outside we played in the sand, swings, and zip line. When we went outside for the latter part of the day, the kids discovered a toad. They worked to build a habitat for the toad in a bucket, by adding grass and a little water. When they had to say goodbye, Elijah called to the toad that he loved him.
Project Work:
Today the children began books dedicated to themselves. We began with cutting images from magazines that we admired. Miles found a frog, and did a detailed drawing of it freehand. Addison worked hard developing her cutting skills and cut out two pictures of babies. She also drew a picture which she cut out, and pasted to her page. Harper found many images that she liked- which she is saving for later. Elijah found many images- I discovered that he has wonderful cutting skills. He said that he was going to make his OWN magazine and show it to his Mom. He found many suitable images for his magazine, and glued them down. Everyone cleaned up after themselves and then headed outside.
Rest Time/ Focused Work:
Addison took a while to fall asleep, and Pearson listened to audio books. Harper, Miles, and Elijah and Sam worked in the studio for a bit. Harper and Sam painted and mixed colors. Miles created a clay snake and then painted it. This inspired Elijah after he was finished with his audio book, and took up the idea himself- creating a sculpture and then painting it the very same color that Harper mixed. When it was time for focused work Pearson worked on writing the letter "M," and writing his name in small letters in a straight line. Harper was very diligent and filled two entire pages with rows of letters all the way from "A" to "R"! We were very impressed.
Miles did a journal entry of a bob cat ripping apart water pipes, and wrote the title underneath "Water Cat." Sam worked with his flash cards and looked through a spider book.

Free Play:
Lindsey put bubbles and water into the water table for Sam. He really enjoyed squirting water out of tools we provided for him. Later Elijah discovered it and added toy fish and played there for a while quite happily. Everyone was great about cleaning up when it was time to go outside.
End of the Day:
We played the cat and mouse game- everyone joined in- Sam, Elijah, Harper, Miles, Pearson, and Addison. Miles won but harper came in a close second place. Then we read about a boy who was given an Alligator named Bridget. It was a very peaceful day, and for the most part the children were very good at minding their manners- especially during project time and lunch.

Thank you for sharing our children's day with us, I'm sure you know just how much it means to us as parents. I will be printing these to show my son when he is older ( of course I will be staying the same age after this year ) so that he can look back on these times and remember them as new again. I am interested in the " Green Circle " and possibly how we can apply this technique at our home. Thank you for helping our children grow!
